"he is not strong." Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (6/176), but he quickly contradicted himself by mentioning him in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" as well (1/224) and said: "I do not like to use his report as evidence if he is alone." I said: This means he is not severely weak, so it is permissible to use him as supporting evidence, and Allāh, the Exalted, knows best. Furthermore, Ibn Ḥibbān added at the end of the ḥadīth: "And he said: May Allāh fight the Jews, they have been given knowledge." I said: The speaking of the deceased should be believed, as it is established in some authentic ḥadīths, such as his saying (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): "When the deceased is placed and the men carry it on their shoulders, if it was righteous it says: 'Take me forward, take me forward,' and if it was not righteous it says: 'Woe to it, where are they taking it?!' Everything hears its voice except humans, and if they heard it, they would faint." It was narrated by al-Bukhārī and others, and it is documented in "Aḥkām al-Janāʾiz" (p. 72). His saying (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in response to the Jew's question: "Allāh knows best," apparently was before this clear authentic ḥadīth about the deceased speaking and with a voice was revealed to him. And Allāh knows best. Then, the ḥadīth in "Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī" is from the narration of Abū Hurayrah, raised [to the Prophet], without his saying: "If it was true..." etc., and it has been mentioned under number (422). This was confused with the ḥadīth of the translation by Shaykh al-Islām Ibn Taymiyyah, so see the commentary on "Faḍāʾil al-Shām" (p. 55 - Amman).
