and al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "truthful but makes mistakes." This is closer to the overall opinions of the earlier scholars about him, so his ḥadīth is ḥasan, if Allāh wills. Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned him in "al-ʿIlal" (2/124) through his route, and said about his father: "This is a mistake; it is Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)." meaning it is mursal. He did not clarify the reason, and even if accepted, it is a good witness both musnad and mursal. Another witness is narrated by Muḥammad ibn Waḍḍāḥ: ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Ḥabīb al-Muṣīṣī informed us, Ibn al-Mubārak informed us from Thawr ibn Yazīd from Khālid ibn Maʿdān from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī as marfūʿ with the wording: ".. except what was in it of the remembrance of Allāh, or sought refuge in the remembrance of Allāh, and the scholar and the learner are partners in reward, and the rest of the people are insignificant, with no good in them." Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr narrated it in "Jāmiʿ Bayān al-ʿIlm wa-Faḍlihi" (1/27) and criticized it for being mawqūf, saying: "This is how ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Ḥabīb al-Muṣīṣī narrated it from Ibn al-Mubārak as musnad, and ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān narrated it from Ibn al-Mubārak from Thawr from Khālid ibn Maʿdān as transmitted by Abū al-Dardāʾ." Then he provided its isnād to ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān as mawqūf. ʿAbd al-Razzāq followed him at al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab" (7/342). I said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUthmān is the trustworthy ḥāfiẓ known as (ʿAbdān), and he was followed by al-Ḥusayn al-Marwazī, who narrated it in "al-Zuhd" (191/543): Ibn al-Mubārak informed us of it. This is more authentic than the previous, because al-Muṣīṣī, in addition to differing from ʿAbdān and al-Ḥusayn al-Marwazī, is..
