- "The world is cursed, and everything in it is cursed except the remembrance of Allāh and what is related to it, or a scholar or a learner." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (2323), Ibn Mājah (4112), and al-Aṣbahānī in "al-Targhīb" (p. 223/2) through the route of Ibn Thawbān from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Qurrah from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḍumrah al-Salūlī who said: Abū Hurayrah narrated to us, saying: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say it, and al-Tirmidhī said: "A good and rare ḥadīth." I say: It is as he said or close to it, and al-Mundhirī confirmed it in "al-Targhīb" (1/56), as all its narrators are trustworthy and well-known except for ʿAṭāʾ ibn Qurrah, whom Ibn Ḥibbān deemed trustworthy in "Atbāʿ al-Tābiʿīn" (7/252), but it is mentioned in "al-Tahdhīb" that a group of trustworthy narrators, including al-Awzāʿī and al-Thawrī, narrated from him, so it is as if for this reason he said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful but makes mistakes." Thus, it is a good ḥadīth, if Allāh wills, and it is supported by al-Dhahabī's statement in "al-Mughnī": "Truthful." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī through the route of ʿAlī ibn Thābit - who is al-Jazarī - and the others through the route of Abū Khalīd ʿUtbah ibn Ḥammād, both from Ibn Thawbān - who is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Thābit ibn Thawbān - with it. Abū al-Muṭarrif al-Mughīrah ibn al-Muṭarrif differed from them, saying: Ibn Thawbān narrated to us from ʿAbdah ibn Abī Lubābah from Abū Wāʾil from Ibn Masʿūd in a marfūʿ form with it. It was recorded by al-Bazzār (4/108/3310) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" (no. 4248 - my copy) and he said:
