it was recorded by Muslim, and Abū Yaʿlá in "his Musnad" (3/1100) and from him by Ibn al-Sunnī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm" (545) with a similar wording. al-Aʿmash was followed by Manṣūr from Abū al-Ḍuḥá with the wording: "When he would visit the sick, he would pray for him, saying:..." and he mentioned it. it was recorded by Muslim, al-Nasāʾī (1011), and Ibn Mājah (3520). Abū al-Ḍuḥá was followed by Ibrāhīm from Masrūq with the wording: "When he would visit a sick person or a sick person was brought to him, he would say:..." and he mentioned it. it was recorded by al-Bukhārī (5675), Muslim, al-Nasāʾī (1012-1014), Aḥmad (6/109 and 278), and Abū Yaʿlá (1178). there is another chain from the narration of Hishām ibn ʿUrwah who said: My father informed me from ʿĀʾishah: "that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to perform ruqyah..." and he mentioned the supplication. it was recorded by al-Bukhārī (5744) and also by Muslim, al-Nasāʾī (1019 and 1020), Aḥmad (6/50), and ʿAbd ibn Ḥumayd in "his Musnad" (p. 193/1). I said: In the ḥadīth, there is the legitimacy of performing ruqyah for the sick with this noble supplication, and that is in accordance with his (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saying: "Whoever among you can benefit his brother, let him do so." narrated by Muslim, and its documentation has been mentioned under number (473), and al-Bukhārī titled it: "Chapter on the Ruqyah of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)." al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Fatḥ" (10/207): "It is understood from this ḥadīth that the addition in the title is for the doer, and there is evidence indicating that it is for the object, as recorded by Muslim [7/13] from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī that Jibrīl came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: O Muḥammad! Are you unwell? He said: Yes. He said: In the name of Allāh, I perform ruqyah for you from everything that harms you, from every soul or envious eye, may Allāh heal you."
