I said: This is from the ḥadīth of Zayd ibn Arqam (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), and there are two chains of transmission for it, both of which are based on al-Aʿmash, may Allāh have mercy on him. The first: from him, from Thumāmah ibn ʿUqbah, from Zayd (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu). It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (5/201/5011) and the context is his, and by al-Ḥākim (4/360-361) with the fourth, fifth, and sixth additions being his, both from the route of Jarīr from al-Aʿmash with it. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs." Al-Dhahabī refuted it by saying: "I said: They did not record anything from Thumāmah, and he is truthful." I said: Rather, he is trustworthy as al-Dhahabī himself said in "al-Kāshif," following Ibn Maʿīn and al-Nasāʾī, and likewise, al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb," so the chain is authentic. He was also followed by Shaybān from al-Aʿmash with it. It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī (5012) who said: "Abū Muʿāwiyah differed with them in its isnād." I said: He is referring to the following chain. They were also followed by Sufyān al-Thawrī from al-Aʿmash with it. It was recorded by Ibn Saʿd in "al-Ṭabaqāt" (2/199) with the second addition being his. The second chain: narrated by Abū Muʿāwiyah from al-Aʿmash from Yazīd ibn Ḥabān from Zayd ibn Arqam
