and in another narration: "If you see on that day a caliph of Allāh on the earth, then adhere to him even if he strikes your back and takes your wealth. If you do not see a caliph, then flee [through the land] until death overtakes you while you are biting onto the trunk of a tree." [He said: I asked: Then what? He said: "Then the Dajjāl will emerge." I asked: With what will he come? He said: "With a river—or he said: water and fire—whoever enters his river will have his reward diminished and his sin confirmed, and whoever enters his fire will have his reward confirmed and his sin diminished." [I asked: O Messenger of Allāh, what comes after the Dajjāl? He said: "ʿĪsá ibn Maryam."] I asked: Then what? He said: "If you breed a horse, you will not ride its foal until the Hour is established."] I said: This is a ḥadīth of great significance, a sign of his prophethood (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and his advice to his ummah. How much the Muslims need it to escape from division and partisanship that has fragmented their unity, scattered their ranks, and diminished their strength, which has been one of the reasons the enemy has gained power over them, confirming his saying: *"And do not dispute and [thus] lose courage and [then] your strength would depart."* (Sūrah al-Anfāl, 46) It has come in both lengthy and concise forms from various paths. I have gathered here its benefits and added its additional parts in their appropriate places within the context, and it is from Imām al-Bukhārī in "Kitāb al-Fitan."
