It was recorded by Ibn Abī Shaybah (8/60 and 10/363). I say: And this Muṣʿab is lenient in ḥadīth as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." Mālik narrated it in "al-Muwaṭṭaʾ" (3/125-126) from Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd who said: It reached me that Khālid ibn al-Walīd said: and he mentioned it in brief. Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr said in "al-Tamhīd" after it: "This is a well-known ḥadīth, both with and without isnād." Then he narrated it through some of the previous chains, then said: "In this ḥadīth, there is evidence that the words of Allāh are not created, because one does not seek refuge with something created." Then he mentioned that the meaning of his statement in some of the previous chains: "and that they be present" is "and that they harm me, as in His saying, *'And say: My Lord, I seek refuge in You from the incitements of the devils, and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, lest they be present with me'*" (Sūrah Al-Muʾminūn, verse 97-98). Then I found a supporting narration for the ḥadīth from Abū Rāfiʿ that Khālid ibn al-Walīd came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and complained to him about a loneliness he felt, so he said to him: and he mentioned it similarly. It was recorded by ʿAbd al-Razzāq (11/35/19831) and through his route by al-Bayhaqī in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (4/175/4710). Its narrators are trustworthy except for (Isḥāq ibn Ibrāhīm) who is al-Dabarī, and there is known discussion about him. This seeking of refuge also appeared in the story of the devils descending upon the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and one of them attempting to burn him with a flame of fire, so Jibrīl instructed him with it, and their fire was extinguished and Allāh defeated them,
