and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sent me to you to present Islam and its laws to you. They said: Come and eat. I said: Woe to you, I have only come to forbid you from this, and I am the messenger of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sent to you so that you may believe in him. I began to invite them to Islam, but they denied me and rebuked me. I said to them: Woe to you, bring me some water for I am very thirsty. He said: And I had my turban on, they said: No, but we will let you die of thirst! So I went away hungry and thirsty, in great distress. He said: I became distressed and wrapped my head in the turban, then I slept on the hot ground in intense heat and in my dream I was given a drink of milk, more delicious than anything people have seen, and it was made available to me. I drank, was satisfied, and my stomach became full. The people said: A man from the best and noblest among you came to you and you rejected him, so go to him and give him food and drink as he desires. They brought me food! I said: I have no need for your food and drink, for Allāh has fed me and given me drink. Look at my condition, and I showed them my stomach, and they looked and believed in me and in what I brought from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and they all embraced Islam. This is from the ḥadīth of Abū Umāmah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) narrated by Abū Ghālib, and there are three chains from him: the first is from al-Ḥusayn ibn Wāqid from Abū Ghālib from Abū Umāmah who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sent me to Bāhilah... the ḥadīth.
