and its chain is very weak. The ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah mentioned by Aḥmad is more appropriate, as the men in its chain are relied upon in the Ṣaḥīḥ, so the reliable opinion is that it was only held back for Yūshaʿ. 3 - It is said that it was held back for Sulaymān ibn Dāwūd, in the story of his presentation of the horses, and his statement which Allāh recounts about him in the Quran: "Bring them back to me." It was narrated by al-Thaʿlabī and then al-Baghawī from Ibn ʿAbbās. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "This is not established from Ibn ʿAbbās nor from anyone else, and what is established from the majority of scholars of tafsīr from the Companions and those after them is that the feminine pronoun in His statement: (Bring them back to me) refers to the horses. And Allāh knows best." 4 - What ʿIyāḍ narrated that the sun was returned for the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) on the day of the trench when they were preoccupied from the ʿAṣr prayer until the sun set, so Allāh returned it for him until he prayed ʿAṣr. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "So he said! And he attributed it to al-Ṭaḥāwī, but what I saw in 'Mushkil al-Āthār' by al-Ṭaḥāwī is what I previously mentioned from the ḥadīth of Asmāʾ." I said: And the ḥadīth of Asmāʾ will come soon, if Allāh wills. And the story of his (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) preoccupation from the ʿAṣr prayer is in the "Ṣaḥīḥayn" and others, and there is no mention of the sun being returned for him (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). See "Naṣb al-Rāyah" (2/164). 5 - And of this kind is what Yūnus ibn Bukayr mentioned in his additions in "Maghāzī Ibn Isḥāq" that when the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) informed Quraysh on the morning of the Isrāʾ that he saw the caravan belonging to them and that it would arrive with the sunrise, he supplicated to Allāh, so the sun was held back until the caravan entered. I said: And this is problematic, and as for al-Ḥāfiẓ, he said:
