and there is another supporting narration from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said: "Whoever spends two pairs in the way of Allāh, the gatekeepers of Paradise will call him, each gatekeeper of a gate: O so-and-so! Come forth." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī and others, and he has different wordings for it, and it is in my book "Mukhtaṣar al-Bukhārī" (Book of Fasting / 4 - Chapter). Al-Bazzār also recorded the fourth section similar to it from the ḥadīth of Anas ibn Mālik. (Benefit): The ḥāfiẓ said (6/36): "And his saying: (two pairs) means two things of any type that are spent." I said: This is supported by an addition in al-Bukhārī with the wording: "of anything from things," then he said: "And the term 'pair' can refer to one or two, and here it certainly refers to one. And his saying: (each gatekeeper of a gate) seems to be reversed, because the intended meaning is: the gatekeepers of each gate. Al-Muhallab said: In this ḥadīth, jihād is considered the best of deeds, because the one who strives is given the reward of the one who prays, fasts, and gives charity, even if he does not do those acts, because the Gate of Rayyān is for those who fast, and it is mentioned in this ḥadīth that the one who strives is called from all those gates by spending a small amount of wealth in the way of Allāh. End. And what is taken at face value from this ḥadīth is contradicted by what I presented in "Fasting" from an addition in the ḥadīth of Aḥmad where he said: "For every people of an action, a gate is designated for them by that action," and this indicates that what is meant by (the way of Allāh) is more general than jihād and includes other righteous deeds."
