There is another chain for the ḥadīth with him, narrated from Muḥammad ibn Sulaymān al-ʿĀbid: Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid narrated to us from Qays ibn Abī Ḥāzim who said: ʿAlī said to al-Zubayr, and he mentioned something similar in brief. Al-Dhahabī critiqued it by saying: "I said: al-ʿĀbid is unknown, and the ḥadīth is questionable." Al-Ḥāfiẓ confirmed this in "al-Lisān" by saying: "unknown." Yaʿlá ibn ʿUbayd contradicted him and said: Ismāʿīl ibn Abī Khālid narrated to us from ʿAbd al-Salām—a man from his neighborhood—who said: ʿAlī and al-Zubayr were alone on the day of the Battle of the Camel... the ḥadīth. Ibn Abī Shaybah included it in "al-Muṣannaf" (15/283/19673) and mentioned it in the biography of this ʿAbd al-Salām, quoting al-Bukhārī: "... from ʿAlī and al-Zubayr, his hearing from them is not established."
