"its chain of narration is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī." al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I said: It is as they said, and ʿAbd al-Karīm is Ibn Mālik al-Jazarī al-Ḥarrānī, the trustworthy one, not ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn Abī al-Mukhāriq al-Baṣrī, the weak one. For although he also narrates from ʿIkrimah, he is not among the teachers of ʿUbayd Allāh al-Raqī. In this ḥadīth, there is an important benefit, which is the explanation of the prohibition of solitude with a reason that is not rationally comprehensible, contrary to what I had transmitted from al-Ṭabarī under ḥadīth (62), so take note.
- "You will indeed fight him while you are unjust to him. It means al-Zubayr and ʿAlī (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhumā)." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (3/366) from Manjāb ibn al-Ḥārith from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Ajlah: My father narrated to me from Yazīd al-Faqīr, (Manjāb said: And I heard Faḍl ibn Faḍālah narrate it all from Abū Ḥarb ibn Abī al-Aswad who said: "I witnessed ʿAlī and al-Zubayr when al-Zubayr returned on his mount, cutting through the ranks, and his son ʿAbd Allāh confronted him and said: What is wrong with you? He said: ʿAlī reminded me of a ḥadīth I heard from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saying: ... (and he mentioned it). So I will not fight him. He said: Did you come for fighting? I only came to reconcile between the people, and may Allāh rectify this matter through you. He said: I have sworn not to fight. He said: Then free your slave Jirjis, and stay until you reconcile between the people. He said: So he freed his slave Jirjis, and stayed, but the matter of the people became confused, so he left on his horse." I said: This chain of narration is good from the first perspective, and authentic from the other perspective if the integrity of Faḍl ibn Faḍālah is established, for I did not find a biography for him. And I do not find it unlikely that he is Faḍīl ibn Faḍālah al-Hawzanī al-Shāmī, whose name was altered by the copyist, and he is truthful, narrated by a group, and mentioned by Ibn Ḥibbān in "al-Thiqāt," and he is among the men of "al-Tahdhīb." or that he is
