"shall I not inform you of something better than the rank of fasting, prayer, and charity?" They said: "Yes, indeed." He said: "Reconciling between people." This is a strong witness, documented in "Takhrīj al-Ḥalāl" (408). Refer to the earlier number (1448), and with it, the ḥadīth is saved from the apparent weakness in its isnād, which previously led me to include it in "Ḍaʿīf al-Jāmiʿ" under number (1110). Then, Ḥāfiẓ al-Mundhirī pointed out to us that it is ḥasan due to other factors, may Allāh reward him well. Therefore, it should be transferred to "Ṣaḥīḥ al-Jāmiʿ", and I have done so, and Allāh, the Exalted, is the source of success.
A servant killed ninety-nine people, then repentance was presented to him. He asked about the most knowledgeable person on earth, and he was directed to a man (in another narration, a monk). He came to him and said: "I have killed ninety-nine people, is there any repentance for me?" He said: "After killing ninety-nine people?!" So he drew his sword and killed him, completing one hundred. Then repentance was presented to him again, and he asked about the most knowledgeable person on earth. He was directed to a [scholar], and he came to him and said: "I have killed one hundred people, is there any repentance for me?" He replied: "Who can stand between you and repentance?!" "Leave the wicked village you are in and go to the righteous village of such and such, [for there are people there who worship Allāh], so worship your Lord [with them] there, [and do not return to your land, for it is a land of evil]." He said: So he set out for the righteous village, and his time came to him [on some part] of the way, [and he fell with his chest towards it]. He said: Then the angels of mercy and the angels of punishment disputed over him. Iblīs said: "I have more right to him, for he never disobeyed me for a moment!" He said: The angels of mercy said: "He went out repentant [with his heart
