and Maymūn ibn ʿAjlān was corroborated by al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Ḥumrah in the suspended narration according to Abū Nuʿaym, but this al-Ḍaḥḥāk is weak. The ḥadīth has a supporting narration from Abū Hurayrah. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (no. 245), al-Tirmidhī who graded it as ḥasan in one version, and authenticated by Ibn Ḥibbān (712). Its isnād is suitable for citation as I clarified in the second verification of "al-Mishkāt" (5015). Abū Yaʿlá also has another ḥadīth with this isnād from Anas regarding the virtue of shaking hands upon meeting, which was mentioned earlier under ḥadīth (525).

- "The souls of the martyrs are in the bodies of green birds, which have lamps hanging from the Throne. They roam freely in Paradise wherever they wish, then return to those lamps. Their Lord looked upon them and said: Do you desire anything? They said: What could we desire when we roam freely in Paradise wherever we wish? He did this with them three times. When they saw that they would not be left without being asked, they said: O Lord! We wish that our souls be returned to our bodies so that we may be killed in Your cause once more! When He saw that they had no need, He left them." It was recorded by Muslim (6/38-39), al-Tirmidhī (3014), al-Dārimī (2/206), Ibn Mājah (2/185), al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab" (4/19-20), al-Ṭayālisī (38/294), Ibn Abī Shaybah (5/308), Hānād in "al-Zuhd" (154), and al-Ṭabarī (8206) through various chains from al-Aʿmash from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Murrah from Masrūq who said:
