I said: Most of these are individuals whose ḥadīth scholars usually consider good, so let those about whom it is said, "he is a shaykh," be like them. This is supported by the fact that al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Mundhirī deemed the isnād of this shaykh's ḥadīth to be sound, as he stated in "al-Targhīb" (3/239): "It was narrated by al-Bazzār and Abū Yaʿlá with a good isnād." Al-Haythamī also authenticated him, stating in "al-Majmaʿ" (8/173): "It was narrated by al-Bazzār and Abū Yaʿlá, and the men of Abū Yaʿlá are the men of 'al-Ṣaḥīḥ' except for Maymūn ibn ʿAjlān, and he is trustworthy." Perhaps his explicit authentication of him relies on Ibn Ḥibbān's authentication, as he included him in "al-Thiqāt," as can be inferred from "al-Taʿjīl," even though I did not see it in the Ẓāhiriyyah copy of "al-Thiqāt," as it has a gap. Then the book "al-Thiqāt" was printed, and he included him in it (7/473) through the narration of Maḥbūb ibn al-Ḥasan and the people of al-Baṣrah from him. These two are among the men of "al-Mīzān" and "al-Lisān," so refer to them. Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Malik al-Ziʾbaqī also narrated from this shaykh according to al-Ḍiyāʾ, as did Muḥammad ibn Bakr, but he called him Maymūn al-Marʾī. However, in "al-Tahdhīb" from this generation: "Maymūn ibn Sīyāh al-Marʾī al-Baṣrī, and it is said he is the son of Maymūn ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ṣafwān ibn Qudāmah." This Ibn Sīyāh is one of the shaykhs of Maymūn ibn ʿAjlān as is evident from their biographies in "al-Tārīkh" and "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl," and he is his shaykh in this isnād as you see. They have been distinguished from each other, so he is not al-Marʾī, then, and it is possible that he shares this lineage with him. And Allāh knows best
