"He is abandoned in ḥadīth despite his piety, from the eighth category, and it is a mistake to confuse him with the first." However, in the aforementioned words of al-Dhahabī, there are some errors that must be pointed out to complete the investigation: First: His statement in the biography of the elder: "Abū Zurʿah said: lenient" is a mistake, and it should be transferred to the biography of the younger, where Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned it (1/2/251), followed by al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Tahdhīb." Second: His statement in both the biography of the elder and the younger: "Ibn Maʿīn said: righteous" is also a mistake, and the correct thing is to mention it only in the biography of the younger, as Ibn Abī Ḥātim and Ibn Ḥajar did. Third: His statement: As for al-Bukhārī, he mentions him in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ." I say: If he means his well-known book "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" as is commonly understood, I did not see him mention the elder or the younger in the printed version in India, so I do not know if this is in another version of it, although I doubt this, as al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar did not mention it at all. However, he said: "Al-Bukhārī said: Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb said: He is the most deceitful of creation." But al-Ḥāfiẓ, while not attributing this to "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ al-Bukhārī," included it in the biography of Ḥarb ibn Maymūn the younger, whereas al-Bukhārī himself mentioned it in "al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr" in the biography of the elder, saying (1/2/65): "Ḥarb ibn Maymūn, known as Abū al-Khaṭṭāb al-Baṣrī, the client of al-Naḍr ibn Anas al-Anṣārī, narrated from Anas (!), Yūnus ibn Muḥammad heard from him. Sulaymān ibn Ḥarb said: This is the most deceitful of creation." Al-Bukhārī did not mention anything in the biography of the younger (1/2/64)
