and Abū Nuʿaym in "Ḥilyah" (6/253) and Ibn ʿAsākir in "Tārīkh" (17/197/2) through various chains from Ḥammād ibn Salamah from Thābit al-Bunānī and Sulaymān al-Taymī from Anas with it. Muʿādh ibn Khālid disagreed with them, saying: Ḥammād ibn Salamah informed us from Sulaymān al-Taymī from Thābit from Anas with it. It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī, who indicated that it was an error from Muʿādh ibn Khālid, saying after the previous narration: "This is more correct according to us than the ḥadīth of Muʿādh ibn Khālid. And Allāh, the Exalted, knows best." Then he recorded it, and Aḥmad (5/59, 362, and 365) through other chains from Sulaymān from Anas from some of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. In one narration: I heard Anas say: Some of the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) informed me with it. I said: It appears that Anas received it from other Companions, so sometimes he would mention and attribute it, and sometimes he would send it without mentioning it. This does not harm the authenticity of the ḥadīth because the mursal reports of the Companions are authoritative, as is well known.

- "Indeed, when death approaches a believer, he witnesses what he witnesses, and he wishes that his soul would depart—meaning his own soul—and Allāh loves to meet him. And when the believer's soul ascends to the heavens, the souls of the believers come to him and inquire about their acquaintances from the people of the earth. If he says: I left so-and-so in the world, they are pleased with that, and if he says: So-and-so has died, they say: He has not been brought to us. And the believer sits in his grave and is asked: Who is your Lord? He says: My Lord is Allāh. He is asked: Who is your Prophet? He says: My Prophet is Muḥammad (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam).
