I embraced Islam and went to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) to inform him of my conversion. I stayed for a year, during which I became thin and my body weakened [then I went to him], and he lowered his gaze and then raised it. I said, "Do you not recognize me?" He said, "Who are you?" I said, "I am Kahmas al-Hilālī." He said, "What has brought you to this state I see?" I said, "I have not broken my fast during the day since you [left], nor have I slept at night." He said: ... and he mentioned it. Al-Ḥāfiẓ also mentioned it in "al-Maṭālib al-ʿĀliyah" (1/303/1036) from the narration of al-Ṭayālisī and remained silent on it. Al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (3/197): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Kabīr', and it includes Ḥammād ibn Yazīd al-Munqarī. (I said: And in 'al-Jarḥ' al-Muqriʾ) I did not find anyone who mentioned him." I said: He missed that al-Bukhārī mentioned him in "al-Tārīkh" (2/1/20) and referred to him as Abū Yazīd al-Baṣrī, saying: "He heard from Muʿāwiyah ibn Qurrah, and Mūsá heard from him, as did his father and Muḥammad ibn Sīrīn." Ibn Abī Ḥātim also mentioned him (1/2/151) and added to his teachers: Bakr ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Muzanī and Mukhlid ibn ʿUqbah ibn Sharḥabīl al-Juʿfī. Among those who narrated from him are: Yūnus ibn Muḥammad, Muslim ibn Ibrāhīm, Muḥammad ibn ʿAwn al-Ziyādī, and Ṭālūt ibn ʿAbbād al-Jaḥdarī. It should be added that Abū Dāwūd al-Ṭayālisī also narrated from him, as he narrated this ḥadīth, and Ibn Ḥibbān also mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (2/62 - Manuscript of al-Ẓāhiriyyah) and in the margin in the handwriting of some of the muḥaddithīn: "And al-Bazzār mentioned him, saying: There is nothing wrong with him." There is a corroborating narration from Mujībah al-Bāhiliyyah from her father or uncle with this story, and at the end of it, there is an addition for which I included it in "Ḍaʿīf Abī Dāwūd" under number (419)
