that the shaykh of al-Ḥalwānī is Ghāwth ibn Jābir, and the shaykh of Ibn Ṣafwān is Idrīs ibn Bint Wahb, but how did he overlook the weakness of Ibn Ṣafwān himself?! Furthermore, what adds strength to the ḥadīth is that it has another chain from Ibn ʿAmr himself, which I mentioned under the previous ḥadīth.

- "Soon a man will wish that he had fallen from al-Thurayyā and had not taken charge of any affairs of the people." It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/91), Aḥmad (2/377, 520, 536), and al-Bazzār (2/255/1643) from ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah from Yazīd ibn Sharīk that al-Ḍaḥḥāk ibn Qays sent with him a garment to Marwān ibn al-Ḥakam. Marwān said to the gatekeeper: Look who is at the door? He said: Abū Hurayrah. So he permitted him to enter, and he said: O Abū Hurayrah! Tell us something you heard from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). He said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: ... and he mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "Its isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And I say: It is only ḥasan due to the well-known discussion about ʿĀṣim ibn Bahdalah. Yes, it is authentic through another chain narrated by Hishām ibn Ḥassān from ʿAbbād ibn Abī ʿAlī from Abū Ḥāzim, the freed slave of Abū Ruhm al-Ghifārī, from Abū Hurayrah in a similar manner. It was recorded by al-Ḥākim, Ibn Ḥibbān (1559), Aḥmad (2/352, 521), and others. This isnād is ḥasan due to what precedes it; its men are trustworthy, except that ʿAbbād was not declared trustworthy by anyone other than Ibn Ḥibbān.
