One day, while he was reviewing horses, ʿUyainah ibn Ḥiṣn ibn Badr al-Fazārī was with him. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him: "I am more knowledgeable about horses than you." ʿUyainah replied: "And I am more knowledgeable about men than you!" The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him: "How so?" He said: "The best men are my men who carry their swords on their shoulders, placing their spears on the backs of their horses, wearing cloaks from the people of Najd." The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "You have lied. Rather, the best men are the men of Yemen, and faith is Yemeni up to Lakhm, Judhām, and ʿĀmilah. The food of Ḥimyar is better than its eater, and Ḥaḍramawt is better than Banū al-Ḥārith. One tribe is better than another tribe, and one tribe is worse than another tribe. By Allāh, I do not care if both al-Ḥāriths perish. May Allāh curse the four kings: Jamdāʾ, Mukhūsāʾ, Mushrikhāʾ, and Abḍaʿah, and their sister al-ʿAmardah." Then he said: "My Lord commanded me to curse Quraysh twice, so I cursed them." "And He commanded me to pray for them, so I prayed for them twice." Then he said: "ʿUṣayyah disobeyed Allāh and His Messenger, except for Qays, Jaʿdah, and ʿUṣayyah." Then he said: "Aslam, Ghifār, Muzaynah, and their allies from Juhaynah are better than Banū Asad, Tamīm, Ghaṭafān, and Hawāzin in the sight of Allāh on the Day of Judgment." Then he said: "The worst two tribes among the Arabs are Najrān and Banū Taghlib, and the most tribes in Paradise are Madhḥij and Maʾkūl."
