"I am not like you, I am more at ease than you, I am riding." But they refused, so the Prophet of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) bent his thigh, dismounted, drank, and the people drank, though he did not intend to drink it. I said: Its isnād is authentic from both perspectives, and al-Jurayrī is Abū Masʿūd Saʿīd ibn Iyās al-Baṣrī, a trustworthy narrator from the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], and he had become confused, but his confusion was not severe as Ibn Ḥibbān said, and perhaps for this reason the two Shaykhs included his narrations. The ḥadīth was also recorded by Aḥmad in "Musnad" (3/21): Ḥaddathanā Yazīd: Anbanā Abū Masʿūd al-Jurayrī with a similar narration. And this Yazīd is Ibn Hārūn al-Wāsiṭī, who is also trustworthy from the two Shaykhs, but the statement by the commentator on "Musnad Abī Yaʿlá" (2/338) that he heard from al-Jurayrī early is a pure error, as it contradicts what is in "Tahdhīb" from al-ʿAjlī: "He narrated from him during his confusion, Yazīd ibn Hārūn and Ibn al-Mubārak... and..." etc. We authenticated his ḥadīth for the reason I mentioned earlier. And Allāh knows best.
"إني لست مثلكم، إني أيسر منكم، إني راكب". فأبوا، فثنى نبي الله ﷺ فخذه، فنزل فشرب وشرب الناس، وما كان يريد أن يشربه. قلت: وإسناده صحيح من الوجهين، والجريري هو أبو مسعود سعيد بن إياس البصري، ثقة من رجال الشيخين، وكان قد اختلط، لكن لم يكن اختلاطه فاحشا كما قال ابن حبان، ولعله لذلك أخرج له الشيخان. والحديث أخرجه أحمد في "مسنده" (٣ / ٢١): حدثنا يزيد: أنبأنا أبو مسعود الجريري به نحوه. ويزيد هذا هو ابن هارون الواسطي، وهو ثقة أيضا من رجال الشيخين، لكن قول المعلق على "مسند أبي يعلى" (٢ / ٣٣٨): إنه قديم السماع من الجريري، وهم محض، لمخالفته لما في "التهذيب" عن العجلي: "روى عنه في الاختلاط يزيد بن هارون وابن المبارك.. و.. " إلخ. وإنما صححنا حديثه لما ذكرته آنفا. والله أعلم.

"The most truthful omen is optimism, and the evil eye is real." Recorded by Aḥmad (2/289): Ḥaddathanā Khalaf ibn al-Walīd, Ḥaddathanā Abū Maʿshar from Muḥammad ibn Qays who said: Abū Hurayrah was asked: Did you hear the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say that omens are in three: the house, the horse, and the woman? He said: Should I attribute to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) [what he did not say?! But I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)], say: and he mentioned it. This isnād is weak due to the weakness of Abū Maʿshar and his teacher Muḥammad ibn Qays, as noted in "Taqrīb". The addition is from "Musnad" verified by Aḥmad Shākir (14/266-267)
"أصدق الطيرة الفأل، والعين حق". أخرجه أحمد (٢ / ٢٨٩): حدثنا خلف بن الوليد حدثنا أبو معشر عن محمد بن قيس قال: سئل أبو هريرة: سمعت رسول الله ﷺ، الطيرة في ثلاث: في المسكن والفرس والمرأة؟ قال: إذا أقول على رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم [ما لم يقل؟! ولكني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ]، يقول: فذكره. وهذا إسناد ضعيف لضعف أبي معشر وشيخه محمد بن قيس. كما في "التقريب". والزيادة من "المسند" تحقيق أحمد شاكر (١٤ / ٢٦٦ - ٢٦٧).
