"the mosques." I said: And what is the grazing, O Messenger of Allāh? He said: "Glory be to Allāh, and praise be to Allāh, and there is no deity but Allāh, and Allāh is the Greatest." It was also narrated by al-Tirmidhī, who said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan gharīb." I said: Ḥumayd al-Makkī is unknown as the ḥāfiẓ said, so the isnād is weak. Thus, the statement of al-Ḥāfiẓ al-Mundhirī (2/251): "Narrated by al-Tirmidhī, who said: 'A gharīb ḥadīth,' and the ḥāfiẓ said: 'Despite its strangeness, it has a good isnād.'" I said: This is from al-Mundhirī's leniency. How not, when this Ḥumayd was not authenticated by anyone, nor was he narrated from except by Zayd ibn al-Ḥabbāb, and al-Bukhārī said about his ḥadīth: "It is not followed up on." Then there is a discrepancy between what I quoted from al-Tirmidhī and what al-Mundhirī quoted from him, and what is more appropriate considering the state of the isnād and having a good opinion of al-Tirmidhī—despite his leniency—is what he himself quoted: "A gharīb ḥadīth," without saying: "ḥasan." And Allāh knows best. There is another supporting narration from Jābir, raised similarly in his ḥadīth. It was narrated by al-Ḥākim (1/494-495) and others through the route of ʿUmar ibn ʿAbd Allāh, the client of Ghufrah, who said: I heard Ayyūb ibn Khālid ibn Ṣafwān al-Anṣārī from him.
