"The Muslims are like a single person; if his eye is in pain, his whole body is in pain, and if his head is in pain, his whole body is in pain." Narrated by Muslim (8/20) and Aḥmad (4/271 and 276) from al-Aʿmash from Khaythamah from al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr, raised [to the Prophet], and Aḥmad said: "The believers." It is also recorded by al-Bukhārī (7/77-78) and Muslim, and Aḥmad (4/70) and al-Ṭayālisī, number (790), from the ḥadīth of al-Shaʿbī from al-Nuʿmān, raised [to the Prophet] with the wording: "The example of the believers in their mutual love, mercy, and compassion is like the body; if one part of it is in pain, the rest of the body responds with sleeplessness and fever." Then it is recorded by al-Ṭayālisī, number (793), and Aḥmad (4/274) through the route of Ḥammād ibn Salamah from Simāk ibn Ḥarb who said: I heard al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr with a shortened version. Its isnād is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim. It has a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Sahl ibn Saʿd, raised [to the Prophet] with the wording: "Indeed, the believer among the people of faith is like the head to the body; the believer feels pain for the people of faith just as the body feels pain for what is in the head." Recorded by Aḥmad (5/340): Aḥmad ibn al-Ḥajjāj narrated to us, ʿAbdullāh informed us, Muṣʿab ibn Thābit narrated to me, Abū Ḥāzim said: I heard Sahl ibn Saʿd al-Sāʿidī. This isnād is acceptable for corroborations; its men are trustworthy according to al-Bukhārī except for Muṣʿab ibn Thābit, who is considered weak in ḥadīth, but he was a devout worshipper as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." The ḥadīth is mentioned by al-Haythamī in "al-Majmaʿ" (8/87), and he said: "Narrated by Aḥmad, and its men are those of the authentic collections except for Sawwār ibn ʿAmārah, who is trustworthy."
