a rejected narrator. Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" and said: "a reliable narrator." Ḥammād ibn Salamah also followed him, narrating from ʿĀṣim in a similar manner, and al-Mundhirī deemed its isnād good (1/138), followed by al-Haythamī (1/299), and it is documented in "al-Rawḍ al-Naḍīr" number (611).
منكر الحديث. وذكرها ابن حبان في "الثقات" وقال: "مستقيم الحديث". وتابعه أيضا حماد بن سلمة عن عاصم به نحوه، وحسن إسناده المنذري (١ / ١٣٨) وتبعه الهيثمي (١ / ٢٩٩) وهو مخرج في "الروض النضير" رقم (٦١١).
- "He used to instruct her (meaning ʿĀʾishah) to seek protection from the evil eye." It was recorded by Muslim (7/17) and Aḥmad (6/63) through the route of Masʿar: Maʿbad ibn Khālid narrated to us from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Shaddād from ʿĀʾishah that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) used to... and he mentioned it. Sufyān narrated it from Maʿbad with the wording: "He used to instruct me to seek protection from the evil eye." It was recorded by Muslim. It was narrated by Ibn Mājah (2/356), al-Ḥākim (4/412), and Aḥmad (6/63 and 138) from this route in a similar manner. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, but they did not include it." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and they erred in their supplementation to Muslim, as well as in their supplementation to al-Bukhārī, for I found it with him also from this route (10/164).
- "كان يأمرها (يعني عائشة) أن تسترقي من العين". أخرجه مسلم (٧ / ١٧) وأحمد (٦ / ٦٣) من طريق مسعر: حدثنا معبد بن خالد عن عبد الله بن شداد عن عائشة أن رسول الله ﷺ كان ... فذكره. ورواه سفيان عن معبد بلفظ: "كان يأمرني أن أسترقي من العين". أخرجه مسلم. ورواه ابن ماجه (٢ / ٣٥٦) والحاكم (٤ / ٤١٢) وأحمد (٦ / ٦٣ و ١٣٨) من هذا الوجه نحوه. وقال الحاكم: "صحيح على شرط الشيخين، ولم يخرجاه". ووافقه الذهبي، وقد وهما في استدراكهما على مسلم، وكذا في استدراكهما على البخاري، فقد وجدته عنده أيضا من هذا الوجه (١٠ / ١٦٤).
- "The person afflicted with the evil eye would be instructed to perform ablution, then the afflicted person would wash with it." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (2/153) and from him by al-Bayhaqī (9/351): ʿUthmān ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us, Jareer narrated to us from al-Aʿmash from Ibrāhīm from al-Aswad from ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā) who said: and he mentioned it. This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs, and the ḥāfiẓ remained silent about it in "al-Fatḥ" (10/164)
- "كان يؤمر العائن فيتوضأ ثم يغتسل منه المعين". أخرجه أبو داود (٢ / ١٥٣) وعنه البيهقي (٩ / ٣٥١): حدثنا عثمان بن أبي شيبة حدثنا جرير عن الأعمش عن إبراهيم عن الأسود عن عائشة ﵂ قالت: فذكره. وهذا سند صحيح على شرط الشيخين، وسكت عليه الحافظ في "الفتح" (١٠ / ١٦٤).
