an additional reward for reminding them of the greeting, and if they do not return it, someone better than them will return it to him." He said: "It was narrated by al-Bazzār and al-Ṭabarānī, and one of the isnāds of al-Bazzār is good and strong." In the chapter, there is a narration from Abū Hurayrah similar to the ḥadīth of Anas. It was recorded by al-ʿUqaylī as in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Kabīr" (1/159/1). In summary, the ḥadīth is authentic without doubt, and there are many authentic ḥadīths regarding the command to spread the greeting of peace, some of which are in the Ṣaḥīḥ. I have chosen this ḥadīth to discuss because it is not in the Ṣaḥīḥ, although its isnād is authentic, and it has supporting evidence, so I wanted to clarify that. Having understood this, you should know that the scope of spreading the greeting of peace, as commanded, is very broad. Some people have restricted it due to ignorance of the sunnah or negligence in practicing it. Among these is greeting someone who is praying. Many people think it is not prescribed, and al-Nawawī explicitly stated in "al-Adhkār" that it is disliked, although he clarified in "Sharḥ Muslim" that it is recommended to return the greeting with a gesture, which is the sunnah. Many ḥadīths have come regarding the Companions greeting the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) while he was praying, and he approved of it and returned the greeting. I will mention here one ḥadīth from them, which is the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) went out to Qubāʾ to pray there. The Anṣār came to him and greeted him while he was praying. I said to Bilāl: How did you see the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) return their greeting when they greeted him while he was praying? He said: He would do like this, and he spread his palm, and Jaʿfar ibn ʿAwn spread his palm, placing its underside down and its back upwards."
