"Indeed, peace is one of the names of Allāh, the Exalted, which He placed on earth, so spread peace among you." This was narrated by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (989). Shihāb narrated to us, saying: Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us from Ḥumayd from Anas who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it, and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād is authentic, and all its men are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], except for Ḥammād ibn Salamah, who is only among the men of Muslim. It has a supporting narration from the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd, raised [to the Prophet]. It was produced by Abū al-Shaykh in "al-Ṭabaqāt" (147, 295) through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar, who said: Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd narrated to us from al-Aʿmash from Zayd ibn Wahb from ʿAbd Allāh with it. And he said: "ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar is unique in narrating it." I said: He is ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿUmar ibn Yazīd al-Zuhrī. Abū al-Shaykh said: "He was known as Abū Muḥammad, served as a judge in al-Karkh, and traveled there. He died in the year 252 AH. He was a narrator from Yaḥyá, ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, Rūḥ, Ḥammād ibn Masʿadah, Muḥammad ibn Bakr, Abū Qutaybah, and others. He has many compilations, and he narrated ḥadīths that no one else narrated." Then he listed for him ḥadīths, this being the first of them. Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned him (2/2/111) and did not mention any criticism about him. I said: The man is used as evidence if not relied upon, for there is nothing in the ḥadīths that Abū al-Shaykh listed for him that is objectionable, and Allāh knows best. The ḥadīth was mentioned by al-Mundhirī in "al-Targhīb" (3/267-268) with the addition: "For when a Muslim man passes by a group and greets them, and they return his greeting, he has over them..
