I said: This matches the narration of Abū Yaʿlá and "Awsat al-Ṭabarānī," so the difference in its isnād is old, and it may be from this Ḥafṣ, for although Ibn Ḥibbān deemed him reliable, he is known to be lenient in authentication. There is a third path for the ḥadīth, but it is worthless, because it is narrated by Abū al-Jārūd from Manṣūr from Abū Razīn who said: al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī addressed us when his father was afflicted, wearing a black turban, and mentioned something similar. It was recorded by al-Bazzār. I said: And Abū al-Jārūd—whose name is Ziyād ibn al-Mundhir the blind—was described by al-Ḥāfiẓ: "A Rāfiḍī, declared a liar by Yaḥyá ibn Maʿīn." There is a fourth path, narrated by ʿAlī ibn Jaʿfar ibn Muḥammad: Ḥusayn ibn Zayd told me from ʿUmar ibn ʿAlī from his father ʿAlī ibn al-Ḥusayn who said: al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī addressed the people when [his father] was killed... and he mentioned the complete ḥadīth, adding: "Then he said: O people! Whoever knows me knows me, and whoever does not know me, I am al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī, I am the son of the Prophet, I am the son of the executor, I am the son of the bearer of glad tidings, I am the son of the warner, I am the son of the one who calls to Allāh by His permission, I am the son of the illuminating lamp, I am from the household to whom Gabriel would descend and from whom he would ascend, I am from the household from whom Allāh removed impurity and purified thoroughly, I am from the household whose love Allāh has made obligatory upon every Muslim, as He said to His Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): *Say, 'I do not ask you for it any payment except love of relatives.' And whoever commits a good deed, We will increase for him good therein* (Sūrah al-Shūrā, verse 23). So, committing the good deed is our love, the People of the House."
