thus, he is acceptable in ḥadīth, if Allāh wills. As for the statement of al-Ḥāfiẓ about him: "Truthful but makes mistakes," it is something that can be considered. And Allāh knows best.

- "O people! Do not complain about ʿAlī, for by Allāh, he is better in the cause of Allāh—or in the path of Allāh—than to be complained about." It was narrated by Ibn Isḥāq in "al-Sīrah" (4/250 - Ibn Hishām) and through his route by Aḥmad (3/86): ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muʿammar ibn Ḥazm narrated to me from Sulaymān ibn Muḥammad ibn Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah from his aunt Zaynab bint Kaʿb—who was married to Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī—from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī who said: The people complained about ʿAlī (may Allāh be pleased with him), so the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) stood among us as a preacher, and I heard him say: and he mentioned it, but in "al-Musnad" his saying: "than to be complained about" is not included. I said: And this isnād is good; its men are trustworthy and well-known, except for Zaynab bint Kaʿb, about whom it is said in "al-Tajrīd": "A Companion, married to Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Iṣābah" after attributing it to al-Tajrīd: "It seems his predecessor in this was Abū Isḥāq ibn al-Amīn, as he mentioned her in his appendix to 'al-Istīʿāb', and likewise Ibn Fatḥūn mentioned her. Others mentioned her among the Tābiʿīn, and her narration from her husband Abū Saʿīd and her sister al-Farīʿah is in 'al-Sunan al-Arbaʿah' and 'Musnad Aḥmad'. Her nephews Saʿd ibn Isḥāq and Sulaymān ibn Muḥammad, sons of Kaʿb ibn ʿUjrah, narrated from her. Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned her in (al-Thiqāt)."
