who said: "I saw the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) bring out ʿAbdullāh ibn Khaṭl from among the curtains of the Kaʿbah and execute him without trial, then he said: 'No one from Quraysh should be executed without trial after this.'" It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (3/637) and both he and al-Dhahabī remained silent about it. I say: And this Yūsuf ibn Yaʿqūb, Ibn Abī Ḥātim said (4/2/233): "Ibn Abī Dhīb and Abū Maʿshar narrated from him." He did not mention any criticism or endorsement of him, but Ibn Ḥibbān considered him reliable (5/551 and 7/635)!

- "Do not kill locusts, for they are one of the greatest armies of Allāh." It was recorded by Abū Muḥammad al-Mukhlidī in "al-Fawāʾid" (p. 289/2) and Abū ʿAbdullāh ibn Mandah in "Maʿrifat al-Ṣaḥābah" (37/201/1) from Saʿīd ibn ʿAmr al-Ḥaḍramī, and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" (1/128/2) from Muḥammad ibn Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyāsh, and also by Ibn Mandah (2/243/1) from ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn al-Ḍaḥḥāk, all three from Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyāsh from Ḍamḍam ibn Zurʿah from Shurayḥ ibn ʿUbayd from Abū Zuhayr al-Namirī as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. Al-Ṭabarānī said: "It is not narrated from Abū Zuhayr except through this isnād, and Ismāʿīl is the sole narrator of it." I say: He is reliable in his narrations from the people of al-Shām, and this is among them, and those above him are also reliable, so the isnād is good.
