"truthful but makes many mistakes." However, two ḥadīths support his ḥadīth: the first is the ḥadīth of Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, raised [to the Prophet]: "He forbade arguing about the Quran." It was narrated by al-Sijzī as in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr." The other is the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, raised [to the Prophet]: "Disputation about the Quran is disbelief." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd and others and is included in "al-Mishkāt" (236).

- "Do not frighten yourselves after having security." They said, "What is that, O Messenger of Allāh?" He said, "Debt." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh" (3/2/430), Aḥmad (4/146 and 154), ʿAbbās al-Tarqafī in "Ḥadīth" (folio 48/1), Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (98/1), al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (folio 59/1 - selected from it), and al-Ḍiyāʾ al-Maqdisī in "al-Muntaqá min Ḥadīth Abī Nuʿaym al-Azharī" (283/1) from Bakr ibn ʿAmr al-Maʿāfirī who narrated to us from Shuʿayb ibn Zuraʿah al-Maʿāfirī that he heard ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir say it, raised [to the Prophet]. I say: This is a good isnād, its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs except for Shuʿayb ibn Zuraʿah. Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned him (2/1/346) with the narration of Abū Qabīl al-Maʿāfirī as well, and he did not mention any criticism or endorsement of him. Al-Ḥāfiẓ added in "al-Taʿjīl" among those who narrated from him Yazīd ibn Abī Ḥabīb and ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn al-Ḥārith, so these are four trustworthy narrators who narrated from him. He is known, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (4/356).
