* "And if you punish, then punish with the like of that with which you were afflicted. But if you are patient, it is better for the patient ones." * (1), and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "and he mentioned it." I said: This isnād is good, all its men are trustworthy, though there is slight criticism of some of them.

"I was forbidden from nudity." It was recorded by al-Ṭayālisī in his "Musnad" (no. 2659): ʿAmr ibn Thābit narrated to us from Simāk from Ibn ʿAbbās, and Ṭalḥah from ʿAṭāʾ from Ibn ʿAbbās as marfūʿ, and he added: "and that was before prophethood was revealed to him." I said: This isnād is weak from both perspectives, in the first, ʿAmr ibn Thābit - who is Ibn Abī al-Muqaddam al-Kūfī - is weak. And Simāk is Ibn Ḥarb, and his narration from Ibn ʿAbbās is through ʿIkrimah, so it might have been omitted by the copyist, as it has been narrated from him through another route as will be mentioned. And Ṭalḥah - who is Ibn ʿAmr al-Ḥaḍramī al-Makkī - is abandoned. And it was recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/179) through the route of Abū Yaḥyá ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who narrated to us al-Naḍr Abū ʿUmar al-Khazzāz from ʿIkrimah from Ibn ʿAbbās (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) who said: "Abū Ṭālib was working on Zamzam, and the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) was among those carrying stones, and he was a boy at that time. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) took off his waistcloth, becoming nude, and used it to protect himself from the stones, and he fainted. It was said to Abū Ṭālib: 'Attend to your son, for he has fainted.' When the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) regained consciousness, Abū Ṭālib asked him about his fainting, and he said: 'A figure in white clothes came to me and said: Cover yourself.'"
