"authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī and Muslim," and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I said: it is as they said, although Ibn Jurayj disagreed and narrated it from Ibn Ṭāwūs as being attributed to Ibn ʿAbbās. It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī. This is because Maʿmar is trustworthy, and the addition of a trustworthy narrator is accepted, and because Ibn Jurayj is a mudallis, and he narrated it with an ambiguous chain. As for Abū Nuʿaym's statement following it, "al-Faḍl alone narrated it from Maʿmar accurately," that is according to what he found, but the narration of al-Ḥākim is only through the route of Wahb—who is Ibn Khālid—from Maʿmar, so al-Faḍl, who is Ibn Mūsá, did not narrate it alone. (Benefit): The meaning of the ḥadīth is that "whoever brandishes"—in the light form and it may be intensified—meaning: draws, "his sword, then uses it" meaning: against people, striking them with it, "his blood is wasted" meaning: there is no blood money or retribution for killing him. Al-Nasāʾī titled it as such, saying: "Whoever brandishes his sword then uses it against people."

"Whoever is thrown from his mount in the path of Allāh is a martyr." It was narrated by al-Ruyānī in "his Musnad" (18/34/2 - 35/1): Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān informed us, my uncle informed us, ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith told me that Abū ʿAlī Thumāmah ibn Shafī informed him that he heard ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir say: and he mentioned it as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. I said: This isnād is good, as al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Fatḥ" (6/14) and he did not authenticate it—despite all its narrators being trustworthy according to Muslim—because there is a discussion about Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, who is Ibn Wahb ibn Muslim al-Miṣrī, which al-Ḥāfiẓ himself indicated by saying in "al-Taqrīb":
