- "Whoever is entrusted with a deposit bears no liability." This is from the ḥadīth of ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb, from his father, from his grandfather, reported as marfūʿ. There are several chains of transmission for it from him: the first is from al-Muthanná ibn al-Ṣabāḥ from him. It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (2/73). Al-Muthanná is weak and became confused towards the end of his life. The second is from Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Ḥujabī from him. It was recorded by al-Dāraqutnī (p. 306) and from him by al-Bayhaqī (6/289). This al-Ḥujabī was mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim (3/2/323) from the narration of Ibn al-Mubārak and Wakīʿ from him, without any mention of criticism or praise, and perhaps for this reason al-Bayhaqī said after the ḥadīth: "Its isnād is weak." And I say: However, it is not severely weak, so al-Ḥujabī can be used as supporting evidence because his condition is unknown, and perhaps he is mentioned in "Thiqāt Ibn Ḥibbān." Then I saw that he was mentioned in "Followers of the Followers" (7/422) from the narration of Abū ʿĀṣim al-Nabīl. Three trustworthy narrators have narrated from him. The third is from ʿUbaydah ibn Ḥassān from him with a similar narration. It was recorded by al-Dāraqutnī from the route of ʿAmr ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār from him, and he said: "ʿAmr and ʿUbaydah are weak." The fourth is from ʿAmr ibn Khālid, who said Ibn Lahīʿah narrated from him. It was recorded by al-Khulāʿī in "al-Fawāʾid," and al-Bayhaqī referenced it
