that some people from the Anṣār asked the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and he gave them, then they asked him and he gave them, then they asked him and he gave them until he had nothing left. He said: "Whatever good I have, I will not withhold from you. Whoever seeks to be chaste, Allāh will make him chaste; whoever seeks to be self-sufficient, Allāh will make him self-sufficient; whoever is patient, Allāh will grant him patience. No one has been given a gift better and more comprehensive than patience." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (3/261 - Fatḥ) and Muslim (3/102) and al-Dārimī (1/378) and also by Aḥmad (3/93). Aḥmad also recorded (3/9) through the route of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Rijāl from ʿUmārah ibn Ghaziyyah from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī Saʿīd al-Khudrī from his father who said: "My mother sent me to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) to ask him, so I went to him..." and he mentioned it similar to the ḥadīth of the chapter, except that he said: "And he has the value of an ūqiyah, then he has been persistent." This is a good isnād; its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim, except for ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Abī al-Rijāl, who is truthful but may make mistakes as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." It was recorded through his route by al-Nasāʾī (1/363). Al-Ṭaḥāwī recorded from the route of ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār from a man of Banū Asad who said: "I came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and heard him saying to a man who was asking him: 'Whoever among you asks while he has an ūqiyah or its equivalent has asked persistently.'" And the ūqiyah at that time was forty dirhams." I say: Its isnād is authentic. It has a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAmr and others in a shortened form, which has already been mentioned under number (1719).
