it was said: "O Messenger of Allāh! How will the believer be on that day?" He said: "Like a palm tree that fell but did not spoil, was eaten but not broken, and left a pleasant fragrance, and like a piece of gold, entered the fire and was taken out, only to increase in quality." It was recorded by al-Bazzār (9409) from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mugharrāʾ al-Dawsī, who narrated from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Ayyūb, from him. And he said: "We do not know it except from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, and it is only through this chain." I said: Its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of (al-Ṣaḥīḥ) except for ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mugharrāʾ al-Dawsī. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, but there is criticism regarding his narration from al-Aʿmash." I said: And this is from him as you see, and yet al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "Zawāʾid" (p. 238): "Ḥasan." As for al-Haythamī, he said in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (7/327): "It was narrated by al-Bazzār, and in it is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mugharrāʾ, who was deemed trustworthy by Abū Zurʿah and a group, but was weakened by Ibn al-Madīnī, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of al-Ṣaḥīḥ." There is another chain from Ibn ʿUmar, which will come, by the permission of Allāh, under number (2288). (Note): The phrase: "like a piece of gold..." etc., is not mentioned in "al-Majmaʿ," and it was cited in full by al-Suyūṭī in "al-Jāmiʿ" from the narration of al-Ḥākim in "al-Kuná," and Ibn ʿAsākir, but he said: "except in quality." And perhaps that is correct. The ḥadīth has other supporting narrations, some of which have been previously mentioned under numbers (1887 and 2238). From the narration of a group, including Anas, and its chain was authenticated by al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Fatḥ" (13/84).
