it has weakness, as I have clarified in my commentary on it. Al-Ṭabarānī also narrated in "al-Kabīr" through the route of Ibrāhīm ibn al-Muhājir al-Bajalī: A man asked ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd to recite [the Quran] while the imam was delivering the khuṭbah on Friday, but ʿAbd Allāh did not speak to him. When the prayer was concluded, ʿAbd Allāh said to him, "What you asked about is your share of Friday." And this al-Bajalī is truthful but has poor memory. Then it was narrated with a sound isnād from Ibn Masʿūd who said: "It is sufficient idle talk to say to your companion, 'Listen,' when the imam comes out on Friday." A similar story occurred between Abū Dharr and Ubayy ibn Kaʿb as reported by Ibn Khuzaymah, al-Ṭaḥāwī, Aḥmad, and others, and you can see that in "al-Targhīb" (1/257-258) and "al-Majmaʿ" (2/186). There is no contradiction between them, as it is possible for it to have happened more than once, as is evident.
- "If you adopt hair, then honor it." It was extracted by ʿAbd al-Razzāq in "al-Muṣannaf" (11/270/20516) from Maʿmar from Saʿīd ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Jaḥshī that the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to Abū Qatādah: and he mentioned it. He said, "And Abū Qatādah, I think, used to comb it twice a day." It was also extracted by al-Bayhaqī in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (2/265/2) through the route of ʿAbd al-Razzāq, and he added to the isnād after Saʿīd: "from their elders, so if this addition is authentic, then the ḥadīth is connected; otherwise, it is mursal because this Saʿīd is a tābiʿī who narrated from some Companions, and Ibn Ḥibbān authenticated him, and al-Nasāʾī said: 'There is no harm in him.'"
