he prostrated, and his hands were level with his ears." This outwardly indicates that the gesture was during the sitting between the two prostrations, as it is mentioned after describing the gesture: "then he prostrated..." I say: Yes, this was narrated by ʿAbd al-Razzāq in his "Muṣannaf" (2/68-69), and it was also narrated by Imām Aḥmad (4/317) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (2/34-35). Shaykh Ḥabīb al-Raḥmān al-Aʿẓamī claimed in his commentary on it: "that it was reported by the four except for al-Tirmidhī and al-Bayhaqī, dispersed in various chapters." This claim is false and indicates his neglect of the requirements of verification, as none of them have the statement after the gesture: "then he prostrated." This is something unique to ʿAbd al-Razzāq from al-Thawrī, and he contradicted Muḥammad ibn Yūsuf al-Firyābī, who was a close companion of al-Thawrī, as he did not mention the aforementioned prostration. Al-Ṭabarānī narrated it from him (22/33/78). ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Walīd followed him, saying Sufyān narrated to me... with it. It was reported by Aḥmad (4/318). Ibn al-Walīd is truthful but may err, so his narration, with al-Firyābī's corroboration, is more reliable than ʿAbd al-Razzāq's narration, especially since they mentioned in his biography that he had ḥadīths that were criticized, one of them from his narration on al-Thawrī. See "Tahdhīb Ibn Ḥajar" and "Mīzān al-Dhahabī," so this addition is among his errors. What confirms this is that many trustworthy and reliable narrators followed al-Thawrī in his preserved narration, among them ʿAbd al-Wāḥid ibn Ziyād, Shuʿbah, Zāʾidah ibn Qudāmah, Bishr ibn al-Mufaḍḍal, Zuhayr ibn Muʿāwiyah, Abū al-Aḥwaṣ, Abū ʿAwānah, Ibn Idrīs, Salām ibn Sulaymān, and Sufyān ibn
