and know that what is meant by the phrase "companion of the Quran" is one who has memorized it by heart, as in the saying of the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), "The one who leads the people in prayer is the one who knows the Book of Allāh best," meaning the one who has memorized it the most. Thus, the superiority in the ranks of Paradise is according to the memorization in this world, not according to one's recitation on that day and the abundance of it, as some have mistakenly thought. In this, there is a clear virtue for the memorizer of the Quran, but on the condition that his memorization is for the sake of Allāh (﵎), and not for worldly gain, money, or wealth. Otherwise, the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said, "Most of the hypocrites of my nation are its reciters." Its source has been previously mentioned under number (750).
- "O Allāh, increase his wealth and children and bless him in what You have given him." This refers to Anas (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu). It is from the ḥadīth of Anas ibn Mālik, and there are multiple chains from him: the first is from Qatādah from him, who said: My mother (in another narration: Umm Sulaym) said: O Messenger of Allāh! Your servant Anas, pray to Allāh for him. He said: So he mentioned it. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (6334, 6344, 6378, 6380) and Muslim (7/159) and al-Tirmidhī (3827) who said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ" and al-Ṭayālisī (1987) and Aḥmad (6/430), except that he said: "from Anas from Umm Sulaym," making it from the musnad of Umm Sulaym, which is a narration for the two Shaykhs and a narration of al-Tirmidhī. The second is from Hishām ibn Zayd: I heard Anas ibn Mālik say the same. It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (6379) and Muslim. The third is from Thābit from Anas who said: The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) entered upon us, and it was only me, my mother, and my maternal aunt Umm Ḥarām, and my mother said: O Messenger
