the ḥāfiẓ said: "and it has supporting narrations reported by Ibn Mardawayh and others." I said: I have mentioned some of them in "Takhrīj al-Targhīb" (3/68). It also has another supporting narration in the "Musnad" of Aḥmad (5/366) from an unnamed Companion. I said: and it includes Sālim from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī al-Hudhail, and from him Shuʿbah, whom I did not recognize. Then it occurred to me that it might be a distortion from "Salam" with an open sīn and a silent lām, as such occurrences are frequent in similar names. I confirmed the correctness of this thought when I found among the narrators from Ibn Abī al-Hudhail "Salam ibn ʿAṭiyyah," and among the narrators from "Salam" is Shuʿbah, who is trustworthy, and the rest of the men are trustworthy according to Muslim's criteria, so the isnād is authentic, and all praise is due to Allāh.
- "Some people will wish they had committed more sins." He was asked: "Why, O Messenger of Allāh?" He said: "Those whose bad deeds Allāh has turned into good deeds." It was narrated by al-Ḥākim (4/252) from Abū al-ʿAnbas from his father from Abū Hurayrah who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said it, and he mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "This Abū al-ʿAnbas is Saʿīd ibn Kathīr, and its isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I said: Its narrators are well-known trustworthy individuals, except for the father of Abū al-ʿAnbas, whose name is Kathīr ibn ʿUbayd al-Taymī, a foster brother of ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā). No one declared him trustworthy except Ibn Ḥibbān, but a group of trustworthy narrators reported from him, and al-Ḥākim authenticated another ḥadīth for him (4/10), which will be mentioned under number (2255), and al-Dhahabī also agreed with him, so he is ḥasan in ḥadīth, if Allāh wills. Perhaps for this reason, al-Munāwī said in "al-Taysīr": "And its isnād is ḥasan."
