however, the ḥadīth has a supporting narration from Abū al-Zubayr on the authority of Jābir ibn ʿAbdullāh, raised [to the Prophet], with the wording: "If you had said: In the name of Allāh, the angels would have lifted you while people watched." And there is a story in it. It was recorded by al-Nasāʾī (2/60), and Ibn Kathīr attributed it in "al-Bidāyah" (4/26) to al-Bayhaqī in "al-Dalāʾil" only, and he added: "until they take you into the midst of the sky." I say: The men of its isnād are all trustworthy according to the criteria of Muslim, but Abū al-Zubayr is a known mudallis and he narrated it with ʿanʿanah. In general, the ḥadīth is ḥasan due to the combination of these routes. And Allāh knows best. I will re-examine it with further verification, Allāh willing, under number (2796).
"If there were only one sūrah, it would suffice the people." It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (1/385), al-Ṭaḥāwī in "al-Mushkil" (2/424), and Aḥmad (3/80) and his son ʿAbdullāh also from Jarīr from al-Aʿmash from Abū Ṣāliḥ from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī who said—and the context is from Aḥmad—: "The wife of Ṣafwān ibn al-Muʿaṭṭal came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) while we were with him, and she said: O Messenger of Allāh! My husband Ṣafwān ibn al-Muʿaṭṭal beats me when I pray, makes me break my fast when I fast, and does not pray Fajr until the sun rises." He said: "And Ṣafwān was with him, so he asked him about what she said. He replied: O Messenger of Allāh! As for her saying: 'He beats me when I pray,' she recites two sūrahs, and I have forbidden her from that." He said: "So he mentioned it." And as for her saying: 'He makes me break my fast,' she fasts, and I am a young man, so I cannot be patient." He said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said that day: A woman should not fast except with her husband's permission." He said: "And as for her saying: 'that I..
