she said: "I asked the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) about this verse: (And those who give what they give while their hearts are fearful). ʿĀʾishah said: Are they those who drink alcohol and are extravagant? He said, "and he mentioned it. al-Tirmidhī said: "This ḥadīth has also been narrated from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Saʿīd from Abū Ḥāzim from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) in a similar manner." I said: The isnād of ʿĀʾishah's ḥadīth consists of reliable men, and that is why al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic isnād," and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I said: However, there is a defect, which is the disconnection between ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and ʿĀʾishah, as he did not meet her, as mentioned in "al-Tahdhīb." But it is strengthened by the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah, which al-Tirmidhī referred to, as it is connected and Ibn Jarīr connected it: Ibn Ḥumayd narrated to us, saying: al-Ḥakam ibn Bashīr narrated to us, saying: ʿUmar ibn Qays narrated to us from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Saʿīd ibn Wahb al-Hamdānī from Abū Ḥāzim from Abū Hurayrah, who said: ʿĀʾishah said: the ḥadīth is similar to it. And this isnād consists of reliable men except for Ibn Ḥumayd, who is Muḥammad ibn Ḥumayd ibn Ḥayyān al-Rāzī, and he is weak despite his memorization, but perhaps he was followed, as the ḥadīth was also narrated by Ibn Abī al-Dunyā and Ibn al-Anbārī in "al-Maṣāḥif" and Ibn Mardawayh as mentioned in "al-Durr al-Manthūr" (5/11), and Ibn Abī al-Dunyā is from the generation of Ibn Jarīr's teachers, so it is unlikely that he narrated it from this teacher of his.
