a ḥadīth is a proof as long as it does not contradict. Therefore, al-Haythamī said (4/323): It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" and its isnād is ḥasan.
"In every living being with a moist liver, there is a reward." It was narrated by al-Ḥumaydī in "Musnad" (902) who said: Sufyān narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Zuhrī reporting from Ibn Surāqah or the nephew of Surāqah from Surāqah who said: "I came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) at al-Jiʿrānah and I did not know what to ask him about, so I said: O Messenger of Allāh! I fill my basin waiting for my camels to return to me, then a small animal comes and drinks from it, is there any reward in that? The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said..." and he mentioned it. I say: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī if al-Zuhrī heard it from the nephew of Surāqah, whose name is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mālik ibn Mālik ibn Juʿshum. However, if he heard it from Ibn Surāqah himself, whose name is Muḥammad, I do not know him and I did not find him in any of the books of men that I have, such as "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" by Ibn Abī Ḥātim, "al-Thiqāt" by Ibn Ḥibbān, "al-Tārīkh" by al-Bukhārī, and others. But the first is more likely because Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq also narrated it from al-Zuhrī from ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mālik with it. It was narrated by Ibn Mājah (2/294), al-Ḥākim (3/619), Aḥmad (4/175), and others. Ṣāliḥ - who is Ibn Kaysān - also followed them, but he said: Ibn Shihāb reported that ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Mālik informed him that his father informed him that Surāqah ibn Mālik entered upon the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)... the ḥadīth
