and he is the son of ʿAbd Allāh the judge, for Muslim included him as a follow-up. This is supported by the ḥadīth of Ḥumayd who said: "Anas ibn Mālik was asked: Did the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) dye his hair? He said: He did not have more than about seventeen or twenty gray hairs in the front of his beard." It was also reported by Ibn Mājah and Aḥmad (3/108) and Ibn Saʿd (1/431). I say: Its isnād is authentic according to the criteria of al-Shaykhān. Thābit narrated: It was said to Anas: Did the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) have gray hair? He replied: Allāh did not disgrace him with gray hair; there were only seventeen or eighteen [gray hairs] in his head and beard. It was reported by Ibn Saʿd with an authentic isnād according to the criteria of Muslim, and it was also authenticated by al-Ḥākim (2/608). And from Rabīʿah ibn Abī ʿAbd al-Raḥmān that he heard Anas ibn Mālik say: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) passed away and there were not twenty white hairs in his head and beard." It was reported by al-Shaykhān and others as in "Mukhtaṣar al-Shamāʾil" (no. 1).
"His speech was clear and distinct, understood by all who heard it." It was reported by Abū Dāwūd (2/293) and al-Nasāʾī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (412 and 413) and Aḥmad (6/138) from Sufyān from Usāmah from al-Zuhrī from ʿUrwah from ʿĀʾishah as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. It was also reported by Ibn Saʿd (1/375) and Aḥmad (6/257) through the route of Rūḥ ibn ʿUbādah: Usāmah ibn Zayd informed us with a similar narration. I say: This isnād is good, its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim, except that Usāmah ibn Zayd—who is al-Laythī—has some weakness in his memory, as al-Ḥāfiẓ said:
