"His most frequent supplication was: O Turner of the hearts! Make my heart firm upon Your religion. It was said to him regarding this. He said: There is no human except that his heart is between two fingers of the fingers of Allāh, so if He wills, He keeps it firm, and if He wills, He lets it deviate." It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī (3517), Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Īmān" (no. 56 - in my verification), and Aḥmad (6/302, 315) from Shahr ibn Ḥawshab who said: "I said to Umm Salamah: O Mother of the Believers! What was the most frequent supplication of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when he was with you? She said: ..." and he mentioned it. Al-Tirmidhī said: "A good ḥadīth." I said: Meaning for others, and it is as he said or higher because Shahr, although he was of poor memory, this ḥadīth of his is supported by corroborating evidence. Among them is what al-Ḥasan narrated that ʿĀʾishah said: "Supplications that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) frequently made ..." and he mentioned it. It was recorded by Aḥmad (6/91). Its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim, except that al-Ḥasan - who is al-Baṣrī - did not hear from ʿĀʾishah. And he was followed by ʿAlī ibn Zayd from Umm Muḥammad from ʿĀʾishah with a similar narration. It was recorded by Ibn Abī Shaybah (no. 57). And ʿAlī ibn Zayd - who is Ibn Judʿān - is also of poor memory. And Umm Muḥammad - who is his father's wife - is unknown. And among them is from al-Nawwās ibn Samʿān al-Kilābī, raised [to the Prophet] with a similar narration. It was recorded by Ibn Mājah (1/77) and Aḥmad (4/182). Its isnād is authentic.
