"When he ascended the pulpit, we turned our faces towards him." Narrated by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr" (4/2/47) and Ibn Ḥibbān in "Thiqāt Atbāʿ al-Tābiʿīn" (7/518) through the chain of Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim from Muṭīʿ al-Ghazāl from his father from his grandfather as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. They mentioned it in the biography of this Muṭīʿ, and gave him the kunya Abū al-Ḥasan. Ibn Abī Ḥātim narrated from Ibn Maʿīn that he considered him trustworthy, and from Abū Zurʿah that he said: "A Kūfan, there is no harm in him." It was mentioned that he narrated from al-Shaʿbī, and from him narrated Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd al-Qaṭṭān, Wakīʿ, Yaʿlá ibn ʿUbayd, and Abū Nuʿaym. Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim was not mentioned among those who narrated from him, nor was it mentioned that he narrated from his father from his grandfather. This was all mentioned in another biography following this, where it was said: "Muṭīʿ al-Anṣārī Abū Yaḥyá, a Madanī who narrated from his father from his grandfather, and narrated from Zayd ibn Aslam, Nāfiʿ, and Abū al-Zinād, and from him narrated Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim Abū Ibrāhīm al-Asadī." My father said: Unknown. This statement was summarized by al-Dhahabī in "al-Mīzān" and in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ", where he said: "Muṭīʿ Abū Yaḥyá al-Anṣārī, from Nāfiʿ, unknown." Al-Ḥāfiẓ added in "al-Lisān" saying: "In 'Thiqāt Ibn Ḥibbān': Muṭīʿ Abū Yaḥyá al-ʿArābī (!) from his father from his grandfather said: The Prophet ﷺ... (and he mentioned the ḥadīth of the biography) and from him Muḥammad ibn al-Qāsim." He said: And I do not know him nor his father
