"authentic according to the criteria of al-Shaykhayn," and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. This is what they said, and Abū al-Ashʿath—whose name is Aḥmad ibn al-Miqdām—and al-Ṭafāwī, Muslim did not narrate anything from them. Furthermore, there is some discussion about al-Ṭafāwī, and al-Dhahabī said in "al-Mīzān": "A well-known trustworthy shaykh." Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "Truthful but makes mistakes." Thus, the ḥadīth is ḥasan, if Allāh wills.

"The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when he swore, would say: 'By the One in whose hand Muḥammad's soul is.'" It was recorded by Ibn Mājah in "his Sunan" numbers (2090 and 2091) from Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab and ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Muḥammad al-Ṣanʿānī, both from al-Awzāʿī, from Yaḥyá ibn Abī Kathīr, from Hilāl ibn Abī Maimūnah, from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Yasār, from Rifāʿah ibn ʿArābah al-Juhanī who said: and he mentioned it. I said: This isnād [chain of transmission] consists of trustworthy men according to the criteria of al-Shaykhayn, except for Muḥammad ibn Muṣʿab and ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Muḥammad, who have some weakness in their memory, but the ḥadīth is good due to one corroborating the other, and they have been followed up, as Imām Aḥmad said (4/16): Abū al-Mughīrah narrated to us, saying: al-Awzāʿī narrated it to us. I said: This isnād is authentic, for Abū al-Mughīrah, who is ʿAbd al-Quddūs ibn al-Ḥajjāj al-Khūlānī al-Ḥimṣī, is trustworthy and among the men of al-Shaykhayn as well. Al-Būṣīrī mentioned that the ḥadīth was also narrated by al-Nasāʾī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" with two isnāds, meaning from al-Awzāʿī, one according to the criteria of al-Shaykhayn, and the other according to the criteria of al-Bukhārī. I did not see it in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" which was recently printed, nor in "Tuhfat al-Ashrāf."
