"al-ʿIlal" (1/74 and 2/165 and 186), he said: "I asked my father and Abū Zurʿah about a ḥadīth narrated by Yūsuf ibn ʿAdī (and he narrated it), they said: This is a mistake, it is only Hishām ibn ʿUrwah from his father that he used to say this. And Jarīr narrated it like this. Abū Zurʿah said: Yūsuf ibn ʿAdī narrated this ḥadīth to us, and it is objectionable, and I heard my father say: This is an objectionable ḥadīth." I said: Jarīr is Ibn ʿAbd al-Ḥamīd, and although he is trustworthy, there is some discussion about him as will come, and Yūsuf ibn ʿAdī is trustworthy and has an addition, and in such a case it is necessary to accept it because Jarīr is not more reliable than him. In fact, al-Bayhaqī said: "He was accused in his later years of poor memory." Perhaps for this reason, al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿIrāqī said in his "Amālī" as in "al-Manāwī": "A ṣaḥīḥ ḥadīth."
- "When he performed ablution, he would run water over his elbows." It was recorded by al-Dāraqutnī in his "Sunan" (p. 31) and al-Bayhaqī (1/56) from al-Qāsim ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl from his grandfather from Jābir, who said: and he mentioned it as marfūʿ, and al-Dāraqutnī said: "Ibn ʿAqīl is not strong." I said: It appears that he meant the grandfather, who is ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl, as there is disagreement about him, and the more correct view is that he is ḥasan in ḥadīth if he does not contradict, and therefore it would have been better to criticize it due to his grandson, as he is very weak. Al-Dhahabī said in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ": "Abū Ḥātim and others said: He is abandoned. Aḥmad said: He is nothing." And in the chapter from Thaʿlabah ibn ʿAbbād from his father as marfūʿ in a ḥadīth about the virtue of ablution:
