(p. 223), and he attributed it to the leaders of ḥadīth and uṣūl. I have found a supporting narration with the wording: "Supplication is veiled until prayers are sent upon the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān in the biography of "Ibrāhīm ibn Isḥāq al-Wāsiṭī" from his "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ," with its chain from Thawr ibn Yazīd from Khālid ibn Maʿdān from Muʿādh ibn Jabal as marfūʿ. He said about it: "He narrates from Thawr what is not corroborated and from other trustworthy narrators inverted reports, due to his limited narrations he cannot be used as evidence." Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned it (1/1/87) without any criticism or endorsement. There is another supporting narration, as Ibn al-Qayyim said in "Jalāʾ al-Afhām" (p. 261): "Aḥmad ibn ʿAlī ibn Shuʿayb (who is the Imām al-Nasāʾī) said: Muḥammad ibn Ḥafṣ narrated to us, al-Jarrāḥ ibn Malīḥ (original: Yaḥyá) narrated to us: ʿUmar (original: ʿAmr) ibn ʿAmr said: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn Busr say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'All supplication is veiled until its beginning is praise of Allāh, and prayers upon the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), then he supplicates and his supplication is answered.'" And this ʿUmar ibn ʿAmr is al-Aḥmūsī, who has two ḥadīths from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Busr, this being one of them. I said: Ibn Abī Ḥātim said (3/1/127): "Shāmī, Abū Ḥafṣ, met ʿAbd Allāh ibn Busr... My father said: There is no harm in him, his ḥadīth is sound, he is among the trustworthy of the people of Ḥimṣ." And al-Jarrāḥ ibn Malīḥ is al-Bahrānī, a Shāmī from Ḥimṣ, who narrated from a group including this al-Aḥmūsī as mentioned in "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" (1/1/524), and his father said about him: "His ḥadīth is sound."
