that he passed by a group of people, and they approached him, saying: "You have come from this man with good; perform ruqyah for this man." So they brought him a madman in chains. He recited over him the Umm al-Qurʾān for three days, morning and evening. Each time he completed it, he gathered his saliva and then spat. It was as if he was released from shackles. They gave him something, and he went to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and mentioned it to him. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "He mentioned it." al-Ḥākim said: "The isnād is authentic," and al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: It is as they both said, if Allāh wills. Its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for Khārijah ibn al-Ṣalt. ʿAbd al-Aʿlá ibn al-Ḥakam al-Kalbī narrated from him along with al-Shaʿbī, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt," but Ibn Abī Khaythamah said: "If al-Shaʿbī narrates from a man and names him, he is trustworthy, and his ḥadīth is used as evidence." al-Ḥāfiẓ mentioned him in "al-Tahdhīb" and affirmed it, and it seems for this reason al-Dhahabī said in "al-Kāshif": "Trustworthy."
- "Everything that your bow returns to you." It is reported from the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushanī, ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir, and Ḥudhayfah ibn al-Yamān. 1 - As for the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAmr, it is narrated by ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb from his father from his grandfather in a marfūʿ form. It was recorded by Abū Dāwūd (2857), al-Nasāʾī (2/196), and Aḥmad (2/184) through various paths from him. I say: This isnād is good. 2 - As for the ḥadīth of Abū Thaʿlabah, there are three paths from him: the first is from Yūnus ibn Sayf: "Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī narrated to us, Abū Thaʿlabah al-Khushanī told me..."
