It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Tārīkh al-Kabīr" (1/1/341), where he said: in the biography of Ibrāhīm ibn Muḥammad ibn Thābit ibn Shuraḥbīl from Banū ʿAbd al-Dār ibn Quṣayy al-Madanī: Abū Muṣʿab told me that Ibrāhīm narrated from ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī ʿAtīq from Saʿīd ibn ʿAmr ibn Jaʿdah from his father from his grandmother Umm Hāniʾ as a marfūʿ report. From this chain, it was also recorded by Ibn ʿAdī in "al-Kāmil" (Q 5/1), al-Ṭabarānī, and al-Bayhaqī in "Manāqib al-Shāfiʿī" (1/34). Al-Ḥāfiẓ al-ʿIrāqī said in "Maḥajjat al-Qurb fī Maḥabbat al-ʿArab" (Q 25/1) after presenting it through the chain of al-Ṭabarānī in a similar manner: "This is a ḥasan ḥadīth and all its narrators are reliable and well-known except for ʿAmr ibn Jaʿdah ibn Hubayrah, for whom I found neither commendation nor criticism. He is the nephew of ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib and the brother of Yaḥyā ibn Jaʿdah ibn Hubayrah, one of the reliable narrators." I said: There are several points to consider in this statement: First, despite the unknown status of ʿAmr ibn Jaʿdah, which al-ʿIrāqī pointed out, his son Saʿīd's condition is similar to that of his father, as he was not authenticated by anyone other than Ibn Ḥibbān, although a group narrated from him. Second, ʿUthmān ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī ʿAtīq was mentioned by Ibn Abī Ḥātim in "al-Jarḥ wa-al-Taʿdīl" (3/1/156) from the narration of this Ibrāhīm and Sulaymān ibn Bilāl from him, without any mention of criticism or commendation, and perhaps he is in "Thiqāt Ibn Ḥibbān." Third, and most importantly, the defect in the ḥadīth is Ibrāhīm mentioned, as there is disagreement about him. Ibn Ḥibbān authenticated him, and Ibn Abī Ḥātim (1/1/125) quoted his father saying: "Truthful." Ibn ʿAdī said: "ʿAmr ibn Abī Salamah and others narrated rejected reports from him."
